Barrie Mitchell, 65, from Marton, was back on form at the weekend riding his first Road Race for over two years, Mitchell lost first place in the 36 mile Towcester Road Race, by a whisker, clearly showing he is once again going to be a force to reckoned with this coming season

In three weeks time Mitchell will show his skills as an event organiser as well as a racer, when he promotes and rides , the “Jewson” sponsored ‘Omloop van der Drie Dorren’ ( the race of three villages )

This Veteran Road Race is unique in that it has five sections of off-road in it - which could prove very interesting. Entries from all over the UK, closed many weeks ago, and should see the UK’s leading veterans battle it out over 35 miles of “hell”, especially if the weather is bad. The closing section of the course includes four very tough climbs, before finishing on the outskirts of Flecknoe.

Never before has a cycle race like this been held in this area, It will test riders’ skills on the farm tracks, fast roads and tough climbs and should be worth watching on Easter Sunday.

The event H.Q. is The Old Olive Bush at Flecknoe, CV23 8AT, And the race starts at 10am on Sunday March 31.

It is hoped that many spectators will turn out to watch the event, with riders starting in different age groups, the youngest off first. The promoting club - Team Jewson /M.I.Racing/Thule/Polypipe - have eight riders entered.
