Rounding off 2013 and first matches of the new year

Well, happy new year to you all and I hope you all had great Christmases and Santa bought you some new gear to play with in the upcoming season!

It’s been a quiet time for the angling world over the festive period with not much to report other than a few match reports.

# Daventry AC 19th Club Match - Dog Lane, December 22: The final match of the 2013 season saw 17 anglers go head to head on Willow at Dog Lane, Napton in fine, but blustery conditions.

This was also the club’s Christmas match, with some top prizes up for grabs, including a Garbolino bomb rod donated by Tommy Clish from Rugby Tackle.

The carp and big perch were on the much, which helped to boost the top weight, plus the skimmers turned up for a few.

First on the day was Kevin Ross, who walked away with the honours - posting a mainly carp catch of 47-3-0 from permanent peg 12.

Second in the frame was Club Chairman Graham Cheney, who bagged carp and a big ‘billy’ for 22-10-0 from peg 16.

The final frame place fell to Gill Corns whose mixed bag weighed in at 18-5-0.

There were plenty of back-up weights with eight anglers bringing over 10lb to the scales.

A big thanks goes to Rugby Tackle, Dynamite Baits and the guys at David Hall Publishing who donated prizes for the event, plus to those fishing who also added to the prizes.

That’s it for another season, which could not have been the success it was without the help of the many who helped with the weigh-in after every match. You know who you are!

# Two results from Rob Taylor’s midweek opens now, starting with the match the week before Christmas which held on the D lake at Peatling pool.

Taking the top spot was Mick Chambers with 82lb 1oz of F1’s on pellet to put himself ahead of Rob Taylor with 55lb15oz of F1’s on caster.

Completing the frame was Fred Johnson with 48lb 14oz of F1’s on maggot.

# Last Thursday saw the same crowd return to Peatling but this time on the C lake where Mick Chambers once again continued his fine run of form with another win with 24lb 1oz of barbel on maggot.

Barry Jaques was second with 21lb 2oz of carp caught on feeder fished maggot.

Third place went to Gill Corns with 6lb 13oz of carp and roach on maggots.

# That’s all I have for you - if you get out and have anything to report please let me know.

Tight lines
