The U16 Girls’ Warwickshire Schools County Cup run for Ashlawn was short but nevertheless involved some exciting games on their way to the title.
The girls played Rugby High School, last year’s champions, in the first round and won 6-2 in an end to end game.
In the next round Ashlawn faced Polesworth School, Nuneaton, again another end to end game for a winning 5-3 victory.
And the Ashlawn School Science and Leadership College U16 Girls’ football team were crowned county cup champions last month, beating Myton School 11-0 in a thrilling final.
All of the girls played magnificantly and really worked well together as a team, even after being 6-0 up at half time continued to play with the same enthusiasm and drive in the second half.
There were some truly fantastic goals which could only have been seen to be believed. An excellent lob from Emma Billenness to start the Ashlawn goal spree, and later two perfectly executed lobs from Natalie Murray as part of her five- goal total, just to name but a few.
The team was: Rhiannon Lewis, Alice Stewardson, Dani Boughey, Kya Greatreaux, Jess Edkins, Lex Jones, Emma Billenness, Abbie Smith, Sara Siddique, Jordanne Bontoft, Lucy Alford, Abi White, Kellie Billenness, Natalie Murray.
Kiera Boughey and Emily Dixon were also involved on the road to the final, but unfortunatley had to miss out due to injury.
