ATHLETICS: Copson’s five in a row

Banbury 5 miles

Angela Copson made it five wins out of five in the over 60 competition of the East Midlands Grand Prix Road Race Series when she recorded 33 mins 8 secs in the Banbury 5 miles and in doing so won back the title she won in 2009. Copson led home the Rugby & Northampton ladies to finish in 10th place overall and helped the Senior and Veteran team to finish second on the night.

Finishing 3rd in the W35 section was Daisy Melville in 14th overall on 34.12 and completing the team was the ever reliable Barbara Parkinson who has now had four second places in the W60 category. She finished 53rd overall in 41.24.

The R&N men were once again led home by Greg Spellman in 15th with 28.23. The 45-year-old had to settle for second place in his age group on this occasion after two victories.

Dave James made a welcome return to competition and he finished exactly one minute behind Spellman in 28th position, but it gave him third in the M45 age group.

Terry Egan was the winner of the M50 race in 29.33 for 33rd spot overall and closing off the Senior team, which finished in 6th place was Steve Milner in 54th with 30.43. The veteran men fared better to finish third and joining Spellman, James and Egan in the team was Adrian Hodson in 106th with 33.32 .
