Rugby’s 5k fun run is on Sunday, May 15

Runners of all abilities are invited to take part in the Ready Steady Fun Run on Sunday, May 15 at 10am.

The event, which supports local charities, is open to anyone, male or female, from the age of eight years.

This popular 5K event was first staged in 2009 as the target event for the inaugural Beginners’ Ladies’ Running Group. The Ladies’ Running Group and the Ready Steady Fun Run continue to grow in popularity year on year and organisers are hoping for another record year.

This year’s Beginners (both ladies and men) are currently training hard for, what will be for most of them, their first ever 5k run and they’d like to invite everyone to join in the fun.

Runner or spectator, they’re hoping to see plenty there supporting both them, and local good causes. All proceeds from entry fees will be split between Hope4, this year’s chosen charity and Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club. Local charity Hope 4 work to relieve poverty amongst homeless and badly-housed people throughout the borough. There will also be a collection for Rugby Foodbank on the day.

The Ready Steady Fun Run 5K is a one-lap course starting and finishing at the Rugby Athletics track. All finishers will receive a medal and goody bag. Prizes will be awarded for the first team back, plus first three men, women and juniors (U16s). To help put the fun into the run there will also be a prize for the best fancy dress; let your imaginations run wild!

Sponsor JPF Sports Therapy will be on hand for a post-race massage and advice on how to relieve your aching muscles. Refreshments will be available on site alongside stalls offering sportswear and nutrition advice.

Younger children have not been forgotten with taster athletics activities from Rugby and Northampton Athletic Club, and Under 8s races on the track which will take place after the 5K run. Entry for the children’s races is £1, sign up on the day.

Early bird entry is available until April 15 at £8.50, rising to £10 thereafter. On the day entries will be accepted at a cost of £12. Children ages 8 to 16 can enter at the lower price of £5.
