UK Masters Indoor Championships, Lee Valley, London
Three days after winning Rugby’s Sportswoman of the Year 2013 award, sprinter Ellena Ruddock, continued to add to her amazing collection of titles. This time at the Lee Valley Indoor Stadium in North London, where the UK Masters Indoor Championships, were held over two days.
Ellena, who has been ranked No.1 in the UK Masters O35 category for the last two years, opened up her third year in that category, by winning both the 60m and 200m titles.
In the 60m event, Ellena had some quality opposition from former GB 400m International, Lesley Owusu. Ellena produced a season’s best performance to win in 7.90 secs from Owusu who was second in 7.97 secs. On the following day, Ellena had Owusu to contend with again in the 200m event. Again it was a very tight race, but once again Ellena was able to maintain her UK No.1 ranking by winning the 200m in 25.52 secs from Owusu in 25.79 secs.
These two wins are the stepping stone to the World Masters Indoor Championships which are being held in Hungary in Budapest later this month. Ellena will be defending her two titles again at 60m and 200m, so everything is now in place for her.
