ASHLAWN School pupil Jamie Lewis is celebrating achieving her black belt in Mixed Martial Arts.

Jamie, 14, is a member of Gannon’s Black Belt Academy and trains two nights a week at the Ken Marriot Leisure Centre. She started when she was nine as a white belt and has worked up to gaining the ultimate black belt in December.

Mixed Martial Arts training and competition format combines a variety of fighting arts. It uses techniques and strategies from striking arts such as karate and kickboxing, blended with submission wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Jamie has won several competitions and wants to continue in her training and develop her skills for more success in the future.
