Three-shot win in spite of mixed weather

Stratton Churchway Bowling Club was the setting for the friendly against Wiltshire and in spite of very mixed weather Warwickshire managed to scrape a three-shot win.

Highest winning rink went to Di Green (Sherwood Park) whose team - Chris Roberts and Elaine Taylor (both Stoke) together with Marie Bromwich (Southam) – started slowly but didn’t let their opponents get the better of them finishing with a five-shot win 14-9.

Pat Moore (3 Spires) with Hazel Goodman and Pat Gagg (both Lillington) and Rosemarie Geden (Southam) almost stole the limelight with a four-shot win 11-7.

Maureen Edwards with Pat Lowe (both Rugby Thornfield), Margaret Grosvenor (Lillington) and Norma Willey (3 Spires) had a hard fight on their hands and were 4-13 down at 10 ends, but a determined effort in the second half resulted in a two-shot win – 16-14.

Yvonne Bromfield (Rugby Thornfield) with Patsy Tandy (Southam), Gloria Higgins (Leamington Spa) and Pat Harvey (Lillington) had a similar story to tell in reverse as they set off well and were 13-3 up at 9 ends, but the rain obviously suited their opponents and they were struggling to hold their own in the second half but eventually managed to win 16-15.

Aleen Shuttleworth with Di Medhurst and Carol Norton (all Stoke) and June Millward (3 Spires) weren’t so lucky as an 11-5 lead at 10 ends was gradually whittled away and they were 12 all at 14 ends eventually finishing 15-17.

In spite of some good bowling, Janet Scott (Sherwood Park) with Brenda Carlton (3 Spires), Chris Harrison (Ambleside) and Jenny Corn (Lillington) struggled to get going as their opposition held them to two shots until the 9th end when they doubled their score to 4-14. Although they managed to get a few shots back in the second half it wasn’t enough and they eventually lost 13-20.
