Victory for Speckled Hen
Rugby Thornfield Indoor restarted their fund raising galas with one in aid of the ‘Have a Heart’ campaign by the British Heart Foundation, writes Alan Jackson.
A sea of red took to the green carpet as 16 teams did battle to win the coveted first place spot.
After the first round of matches Peekie Blinders, Hot Lips and Wycliffe led the way with eight out of a possible nine points, Les’ Lads and Speckled Hen trailed a point further behind. Heading into the half time break Hot Lips had moved into a clear lead with 15 points, Peekie Blinders and Speckled Hen hung to their tails with 14 points while Broms (13 points) and Wheeler Dealers (12 points) completed the top five.
The well earned half-time break had a good effect on some as Speckled Hen stormed into the lead on 22 points, one point ahead of Broms who in turn were a point ahead of Wycliffe.
Half-time leaders Hot Lips had dropped to fourth on 17 points while Peekie Blinders and Heartily Hopefuls held joint fifth with 16 points. Despite being held to a draw in their final fixture Speckled Hen (Claire & Keith Oakes, Bill Brown and Colin Hall) kept command of first place with 27 points. Heartily Hopefuls and Hot Lips were joint second on 24 points, Broms were fourth with 23 points wile joint fifth went to DJ and Cowboys with 22 points.
March sees two more charity galas at Thornfield Indoors, the Sport Relief Gala is on the 16th and on the 23rd there is a gala in aid of Arthritis Care. Anyone wishing to enter please contact Thornfield.
