The RVBC Charity Christmas Swiss Pairs took place on Saturday. With 15 tables it was the biggest bridge event in Rugby this year. The winners, with 85 VPs out of a possible 100, were Ishar & Ed White [pictured]. The event also raised £200 for the Myton Hospice.

On Monday Evening eight tables played a share and relay Mitchell movement with an arrow switch on the last round. Geoff Bennet & Helen Foster came top with 67.26. Jim Bainbridge & Janet O’Connor were second with 59.82. Third place was shared by Chris Cooper & Sue Robards and Carol & Geoff Davies with 58.63. Judy Douglas & Diana Kinch were fifth with 56.85 followed by David & Jane Reed with 55.95.

On Tuesday of last week nine and half tables played a single winner movement. Brian Mawby & David Reed led the field with 61.81 followed by Frank Grace & Isobel Ross with 60.63. Not far behind were Judy Spring & Heather Spencer with 60.31. In fourth place were Graham Clarke & Audrey Upton with 58.75 followed by Caelia Chandler & Thelma Burton with 57.19 and Daphne Rourke & Laura Von Tucher with 56.94.

On Thursday evening three full tables played a Howell movement. Ishar White & John Robards were top with 60.00 followed by Don Prowse & Jim Bainbridge with 59.00. Zena Hutchinson and Cynthia Martin hold the top two spots in the Champagne Handicap but a chasing pack is closing the gap!

Last week, our newest team in local league bridge played the mighty Menagerie at Coventry Bridge Club. The Menagerie team boast Grand Masters, EBU Board members and other top rated players. Undaunted, the V Team beat them by a comfortable margin and are through to the second round of the Coventry League Handicap Cup. Well done! A famous victory.
