Rugby Bridge Club

Last Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Bilton Helen Foster and Ron Golby were victorious with 62.63%, Sue Osborne, not with her usual partner, but with Phil Shorey came second with 59%. Chris and Chris, Cooper and Rowles were third scoring 56.56%.

On Thursday at the Ex-Service Men’s Club, Vera and Peter Iredale had a great night, scoring 72.57. Liz Edwards and Stuart Warne were second, 60.7%, Pat and Sid Downton, third with 56.94%.

Friday at Clifton saw Ann Pettit and David Symon winning with the exceptional score of 75%. the Dixons, Marion and Peter scored 66% and Debbi Welch with Rod Later came third 54%.

Bridge will be played as usual on Good Friday but there will be no bridge on Monday, April 25.

Rugby Village Bridge Club

At Rugby Village Bridge Club on Monday, five and half tables played an 8 round, 24 board, double hesitation Mitchell. In an evening of ups and downs, top were Pat and Alan Ware with 55.36, second were Judy Douglas and Diana Kinch with 54.76, and third Kath Lightfoot and David Reed with 53.57. No slams this week, but a lot of attempts at No Trumps contracts with some mixed outcomes!

Twelve players started the new beginners’ course, Bridge 1, this month, and seven joined the improvers, Bridge 3.

The 2011 Norfolk congress, in Kings Lynn, attracts many high ranking players, including defending English Internationals Paul Hacket and Roger O’Shea . In the Pairs Qualifier, a field of 69 pairs, the East/West winners were Rugby pair, Graham Lightfoot and Jim Bainbridge with 61.15%. a first rate performance by our local pair.

Graham Lightfoot, a stared Premier Master, has also won the 2010 Master point trophy for the second year running.

He is organising a workshop to help the stronger player develop. The aim is to help anyone who wishes to improve.
