Coventry & District League Divisional Cup champions
Rugby Chess Club put the icing on the cake when their players won a very close match against Newdigate to win the Coventry and District League Divisional Cup.
The match started well when Simon Turner sacrificed a knight for the 3 pawns protecting his opponent’s king but then had to contend with some fine counter play and ended up losing his game.
Jonathan Cox stamped his authority on his game from the start and never allowed his opponent to gain any advantage ending up with a straightforward win.
Nalin Kadodwala was down on material and in dire straits when he turned his game around by spotting a tactical trick to win back his piece which allowed him to put pressure on his opponent to win the game. Finally Jamie Kearney, with the game finally balanced, found a very slight advantage and played his end game beautifully to win the game and the match 3-1.
