New initiative to develop young coaches

Harris Church of England Academy is the lead school for Leadership, Coaching and Volunteering for the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire area. As part of this lead role, Harris School Sports Partnership has just launched The Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire County Young Coach Academy (CYCA).

The Academy has selected 27 young people aged 14–18 from all over the area to develop into outstanding coaches of the future. The academy aims to support and develop these young coaches in the transition from school-based participation and coaching to a community environment. The pathway will provide an opportunity for the young coaches to gain greater insight and experience into the requirements of being an outstanding coach.

During the last two weeks these young coaches have attended their first two training workshops where they explored and talked about their emerging coaching philosophy and the importance of understanding honesty and ethics within the context of sports coaching.

The end goal is to produce successful coaches for lifelong participation in sport and coaching in order to become role models for the next generation.
