Rugby’s Mark Cossar won the 2011 Buildbase Championship with an emphatic unbeaten performance in the third and final round at Worcestershire Grasstrack Club.

Ably assisted by his Plymouth-based passenger Carl Blyth, Cossar consistently powered away from the start on his lightning-quick Suzuki.

The audacious 25-year-old even managed to find time between races to assist former Coventry Bees favourite Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris with an emergency engine refit.

Speedway Grand Prix star Harris, who was making his first grasstrack appearance for almost a decade, was full of praise for Cossar.

“Mark was great today, and big help to me,” said the undisputed British speedway Number 1. “He was so far ahead of the rest. I wish him continued success because he’s a very decent guy and by far the most exciting rider in the sport.”

Despite the apparent easiness of his victory, Cossar had a big scare in practice when he discovered a fuel problem caused by some silicone that had mysteriously entered the tank. There was more drama in his second outing when one of his air filters flew off, giving Cossar no option other than to wedge his non-throttle hand over the air box to prevent any dust from entering, which would have severely damaged his engine.
