Remember the name Samuel Bodycote. He signed for Coventry City last week, but you won’t be seeing him in the first team just yet as he’s only eight.
Samuel, who goes to Henry Hinde Junior School, has been playing football since he was old enough to kick a ball, starting at Brinklow JFC when he was just three.
When he was six he was spotted in a tournament and invited to play at Coventry City, where he has been ever since and just loves the game.
Because he has been in a team above his age group, FA rules meant he wasn’t able to play competitively with the under 9s at Brinklow this season, but has had a year with Chetwynd in Nuneaton instead.
From next season he will be contracted to the Sky Blues only.
He and the rest of next season’s under 9s signed their contacts on the pitch at the Ricoh Arena before the first team’s game last Saturday.
Such is Samuel’s talent his parents Jeff and Amanda have had approaches from several clubs, including Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa, but he is happy at Coventry.
Samuel comes from a footballing family, learning from his dad and big brother Ashley, 13, playing in the garden with him - and little sister Leah, 2, knows how to kick a ball too.
