The Bob Coop Memorial Cup is played for as part of the Warwickshire ladies tip and run league and is to commemorate Bob Coop who played cricket for many years with Rugby Cement.

The trophy is provided by his wife Ede and family. This year’s final was played with glorious sunshine on the close at Rugby School where Bob had played many times.

Barby Ladies won the toss and put Oakfield into bat. An early breakthrough saw Maria Smith run out without troubling the scorers.

Captain Maddy Thomas and Sarah Kirk then put on a solid 51 until Maddy fell for 33.

Barby were buoyed by a couple of quick wickets but Sarah kept the run rate high before eventually falling for 44, caught by Alex Meek off the bowling of Sara Hanby. Jo Watling made sure Barby were set an above average target of 133 by making 22 not out at the end of Oakfield’s innings.

Barby’s best bowlers were mother and daughter combo of Mandy and Katie Randle with two wickets each while teenage wicket keeper Louise Hanby took two catches.

Barby’s reply also suffered an early setback with Sara Hanby being bowled by Jess Baxter for 4.

Kerry Norton then joined opener Emma Corns and they put on 25 before Kerry was run out for 14.

The Oakfield ladies bowling was exceptionally difficult to get runs off and despite Emma’s efforts, who batted right through for 45 not out and 21 from Alex Meek, Barby fell well short ending on 101-4 at the end of their 16 overs.

Only two bowlers Jess Baxter and Emily Meikle took wickets but it was the combination of tight bowling and excellent fielding which proved to be a match winning team effort.

Maddy Thomas received the cup from Ede Coop for the second year running.

The ladies would like to thank Ede for her work organising the cup schedules, Jim Mead and his ground staff for making the pitch available, Ian Randle for organising the pitch availability and Karen and Claire for umpiring.
