Youngsters enjoy Willoughby courses
The school summer holidays got off to a great start for budding Ashes and Twenty20 cricket stars of the future at two holiday cricket courses at Willoughby Cricket Club.
Following on from the successful course at Whitsun, over 40 boys and girls aged 5 to 15 have enjoyed two cricket camps at The Green in the last two weeks, run in conjunction with Twenty20 Cricket Company and managed by local cricket coaches Karl Quinney – also from Willoughby CC, and Wayne Davies.
Run over four and two days, youngsters were put through their paces with a variety of batting, bowling, fielding and catching skills sessions, team games, and skills competitions, which are linked to others being staged at several other Camp venues across the country during the coming weeks as part of wider national competitions.
Twenty20 style matches were then staged each afternoon, rounded off with a series of presentations.
Karl said: “It has really been a great couple of weeks with both camps being a lot of fun for both the children and coaches alike.
“It’s been a real cricket family as it were, with some great characters making everyone laugh. Even the weather has been kind. What has also really impressed us is not only everyone’s enthusiasm but the standard of local young cricketing talent.
“We can’t wait to come back in 2014.”
Wayne added: “It has been great to see so many boys and girls keen to play cricket together, and also learn from the coaching on offer and from each other, all with noticeable results.”
