Rugby & Northampton athlete runs for Great Britain U23s
Jacob Allen picked up a team silver medal for Great Britain at the weekend when representing his country at the European Cross Country Championships in France.
Allen, who has been running with Rugby & Northampton for over a decade, put in an outstanding performance at the GB trials in Liverpool a fortnight ago, sealing qualification for the Under 23s international event and earning the chance to compete against some of the best young athletes from around Europe.
On the day, Allen impressed on the course in Hyeres, crossing the line 32nd in a time of 24 minutes and 24 seconds. His contribution led to the team finishing as runners-up to a strong Spanish outfit, securing himself a silver medal.
A student at St Mary’s in London, Allen holds multiple club records for R&N – 1500m, 3000m and 5000m around the track as well as the 10k road record. This was the latest in a long line of achievements, and he continues to inspire the club’s younger middle-distance athletes.
Speaking after the event, a proud Allen said: “It was a really tough race and an enjoyable experience.”
