European champion is guest star at launch
Rugby’s new Crossfit Volentia gym in Paynes Lane was officially opened by the mayor on Saturday morning, explaining in his speech that the word Volentia means welcome.
Co-owners and coaches Christian Loyer, Nicola Tunstall and Marco Cotena had planned a spectacular day and no one left disappointed.
The first demonstration highlighted the inclusivity of every Crossfit workout with those taking part aging from ten to 74, experienced members and novices.
Guest star was Lacee Kovacs, the European Crossfit Champion 2013. Lacee competed in hourly workouts with members of the Crossfit community, who enjoyed the chance to experience training alongside their idol.
A total of 36 athletes from 12 different boxes from the UK and Europe had the opportunity of competing alongside him in six competitive workouts.
Crossfit Volentia’s barbell coach, co-owner and Italian Regional champion olympic weightlifter (68kg), Marco Cotena competed in a Snatch Ladder competition. The standards were high and saw several athletes achieving personal bests. The final lifts were carried out by Marco, and Mitch Adams from Crossfit Wolverhampton who both attempted a 105kg snatch as the watching crowd held their breaths. Head Coach Nicola Tunstall also conducted a ‘squat therapy’ session.
The day concluded with the prize giving ceremony with the winning athletes receiving a pair of Innovate Crossfit shoes and a pack of Rawnola.
Thanks to Volentia’s Kid club coach, Christian Loyer for helping to make the day such a success. And to Katie Dunk from Crossfit Lutterworth who supplied paleo snacks and drinks through her business Paleo Power.
