Success in second national round of the British Youth and Junior Championships
Bretford Cycle Speedway Club went to the Second National Round of the British Youth and Junior in Leicester on Saturday. The Bretford Under 10s Scott Price rode his heart out over four rides, but just failed to qualify for a Final missing out by one point.
Charlie Bracken was like lightening and showed how quick he can be. Charlie reached a D- Final, shot from the gate and was a winner. Charlie is pictured above.
Under 12s saw Dan Price and Jack Bayliss in this category with 29 riders from around the country, so it was going to be hard to qualify for any final. Jack, who has another year in this category, showed his skills by turning tight corners but due to older riders this was a tough task to get to a final.
Jack rode well throughout his four rides and is improving every time. Dan Price, who was coming 2nd overall in this Championship had a tough draw. However, this didn’t phase Dan and he made a B-Final.
Dan got a ram from the rider from Leicester however he held his nerve and came in second in the B-Final.
Under 16s saw Mason Philips, Matt Hambidge, and Lee Kemp riding. Again they all have another year in this category. Mason and Lee were tying in 5th place overall in the championship. Ipswich has extremely tough and strong riders in this category and the draws didn’t favour Mason or Lee. Matt showed that he can really turn a good bend in one of his rides, nipping underneath two other riders, however, they were quicker and stronger and took the places back. Matt got to a D-Final and came third.
Mason worked hard all day and with his tough draw this was going to be a tough day. However, Mason has a great gate on him and worked hard throughout the meeting scoring 9 points. Mason got to a C-Final and showed how good he is by winning this final.
Lee rode well again, picking up the points wherever he could. He beat an Ipswich rider to get into the A-Final. There were three Ipswich riders and Lee in the A- Final. In the finals grid positions are pulled out of the hat, however, for the fifth time this year Lee got a Grid 4 which is always difficult from the outside gate. He came 4th in the A-Final which is excellent. The Bretford team rode well and are showing how a little club can race nationally.
