McKee is best Rugby rider in club’s annual event

A total of 118 competitors from all over the midlands and beyond entered Rugby RCC’s annual 10-mile open time trial, held last Saturday on the popular K11/10T course, based on the A45 between the Thurlaston and Ryton roundabouts.

The event was won by Kenilworth’s Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles), who happens to work in Rugby and is a second claim Rugby RCC member. His time was 19 mins 6 secs, not a record, but still better than 30 mph average.

Best woman competitor was Liz Powell (22-44), who also lives in Kenilworth and rides for Mike Vaughan Cycles. Performance of the day was by Daventry’s 19-year old Ryan Kenworthy who came 6th overall, setting a PB with a time of 20-23, while best Rugby based rider was Craig McKee who finished in 13th place in 20-59, having just returned from holiday hours before.

Best Junior was Rugby RCC’s Ben Atkinson who clocked 22-09. The weather was excellent, there were no reported mishaps, and the excellent Dunchurch Village Hall again proved an excellent HQ.
