Success for new team member Markham

Rugby-based cyclist Luke Markham got off to a flying start in his first race for his new team MI Racing.

On Saturday in the British Mountain Bike series in Essex, in the Sports race, he was a brilliant 4th, just missing out on a podium place by the narrowest of margins.

As a result of his performance, under-23 rider Luke has now been moved up to the Expert Class for future racing. The course was very technical, had several very steep descents, and the dry conditions made the pace very fast.

Luke will continue to mix his racing, with time trials, road racing and mountain biking and a full season of cyclo cross in the winter months.

Team Director Mick Ives, said: “Luke is a great prospect for the future in this area. We have very few young riders coming through, and I like the fact that he is good at several disciplines of the sport. He will gain a lot of experience from riding and training with our riders, and we all wish him the very best.”

Rugby’s Tim Hastie finished a brilliant fifth in the highly contested Echelon 10 mile Time Trial, near Worcester, with a very fast time of 21 mins 24 secs, despite the very strong cross wind and undulating course.
