With just one week to go before the 2012 British Cyclo Cross National Championships at Ipswich, Team Jewson-MI Racing-Thule-Ride, riders were in devastating form, at the Top Barn promotion near Worcester on Sunday.

The Team are the current Nation Team Champions for both the 40-49 Championship and the 50+ Championship, and it was a brilliant display by their 40-49 team, who took 1st, 3rd and 4th places. Second place went to in-form Rugby rider Phil Roach.

The race was won by Kenilworth’s Darren Atkins, with a brilliant display of front riding, leading from start to finish, on the flat, fast but very windy circuit. Team mate, Welsh series champion Mark James, won the battle for 3rd place from Midland Champion Steve Knight. It came down to a sprint finish between the two, but as they approached the finish line they tangled with a lapped rider, and Knight and the lapped rider hit the deck hard, Steve being awarded 3rd place, the lapped rider should not have been in their way.

Team mate Pete Smith has won the 50+ Central Cyclo Cross series, and look set to be in good form along with reigning National Champion Steve Davies and Wellesbourne’s Tim Stow (currently training abroad) hoping to retain the Team Championships again.
