Sir Chris Hoy’s shirt raises £760
Rugby Racing Cycling Club held their annual presentation evening at the Railway Club last Friday. The Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Tony Gillias, was the guest of honour and he presented the trophies to the winners for the 2013 season.
Highlight of the evening was an auction conducted by the Mayor to raise funds for his chosen prostate cancer charity. On offer was a framed jersey won by Chris Hoy when winning the World Chamionship individual sprint event at the Manchester Velodrome. Bidding started at a modest £200, then climbed steadily until the jersey was finally secured by a prominent club member with a bid of £760.
During the winter the club has also run training sessions in Lutterworth on Watt Bikes, which riders use to improve their power output over different distances. This then sets up a target for each rider to try to improve their power each time they use the Watt Bikes and it also sets up a competition between each rider to see who makes the biggest improvement.
