LAST week saw another first for Rugby Swimming Club when their top two synchro swimmers were invited to take part in the first phase of 2012 Olympic Trials.

Emily Firth, 19, and 14-year-old, Sophie Randle were among 27 swimmers to spend five days trialling at the National High-Performance Centre for Synchro in Aldershot.

The week was supervised by the Synchro National Performance Director, the Canadian ex-Olympian, Biz Price and included the 11 full-time athletes currently making up Team GB.

The trials proved to be great experience for the Rugby girls, training alongside the elite of British synchro and being able to witness at first-hand the levels of fitness and quality required to succeed at senior International level.

n At club level nine swimmers travelled to Manchester for a Skills Assessment Day. Skills are a key requirement in enabling swimmers to enter key competitions such as the National Age Group Championships in December. Rugby’s Head Coach, Hannah Dudley was thrilled with the eight passes:

Skill Level 1, Emily Old and Katy Green.

Skill Level 2: Beth Green.

Skill Level 3: Alice Old, Maja Nicholson and Olivia Walker.

Skill Level 4: Megan Walsh.

Skill Level 5: Phoebe Walsh. Congratulations to the girls for all their hard work and dedication. Rugby will now look forward to the Midlands Championships in October with confidence.
