WITH just over a month to send in your entries for Rugby’s 2012 Sports Awards, there are no excuses for anyone worthy of a nomination to miss out!

We are so lucky to have such an enormous wealth of talent in the town - in all kinds of sports.

And there are some fantastic achievements recorded in our sports pages every week - so please make sure this is reflected when it comes to the awards.

They will again recognise outstanding achievements and dedication throughout the year - and anyone is welcome to send in a nomination.

Rugby Borough Council are organising the awards for the 18th time, supported by the Rugby Advertiser and Rugby FM.

After the success of the 2011 evening, the presentations will be again be held in the magnificent surroundings of the Temple Speech Room at Rugby School - on Wednesday, February 20.

And you have until Friday, January 11 to submit your entries. It does seem a long way away, but with Christmas in between, it really isn’t too early to start making sure every deserving candidate receives a nomination.

There are nine categories which will honour both success on the field and those involved behind the scenes.

The Coach of the Year award is the perfect way of showing your coach or manager just how much they are appreciated.

And Rugby’s Club of the Year 2012 should have celebrated success in sport and development initiatives.

Do you know an Unsung Hero Volunteer, whose hard work might otherwise go unrecognised?

Or someone who deserves the Lifetime Achievement Award, for their years of dedication?

The Lion Geoff Thompson Young Volunteer of the Year Award will be presented in memory of the Rugby Rokeby Lion and the winner will also receive a cheque for their club.

It runs alongside the Simon Warwood Memorial Award, which recognises success and team spirit in Rugby’s Young Team of the Year.

Also for under 18s nominations for the Excellence in Sport awards are invited for those who have reached national level in their chosen sport. It includes £100 towards training or equipment.

Finally for individual achievers we are seeking the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, for whom 2012 was one to remember.

For more details or to download nomination forms please visit www.rugby.gov.uk, contact tom.kittendorf@rugby.gov.uk or call (01788) 533749.
