RUGBY GOLF CLUB

On Saturday, Rugby Golf Club Captain Bob James and his team, took on past captains led by Gordon Davey, who was Club Captain in 1976.

The past captains team had experience in abundance ranging from Dick Squires who was Club Captain in 1962 to Simon Daysh the Captain in 2009.

With 20 players on each side playing Better Ball match play, the young guns took an early 3-0 lead, but the Past Captains were not prepared to take this lying down and came back to secure a 5½ - 4½ win.

The game was played in the true Rugby Golf Club spirit and a honourable half was agreed at the meal in the evening.

n The Mixed Open was played on Sunday with a excellent entry of 46 pairs.

The weather was reasonably good with just one heavy shower, enabling the participants to post some good scores.

The winning pair with 41 points was Linda Long & Simon Daysh. Second were Caroline & Clive Brown with 40 points.

n There was a good entry for the Men’s Tuesday Stableford. Frank Lewin played a fine round coming in with 42 points, 2nd was Garry Lane with 38 points, and 3rd William Fielding with 37 points.

n The Super Seniors, Over 75’s Competition was held on July 20. The competition was played over nine holes in indifferent weather.

Overall winner was Ron Brown with the over 90s trophy going to Lewis Smith, but everyone was a winner. Well done to all the participants.

n On Monday 23rd, the ladies played their annual friendly match against Lutterworth which was an away fixture this year.

The weather held and the sun shone for a change which made the game more enjoyable for the eight players from each team who took part in the Better Ball match. Unfortunately, on this occasion, Rugby were up against tough opposition and the Lutterworth ladies won 3 & ½.

n Rugby Golf Club were pleased to host the Warwickshire Ladies County Golf 2nd Team fixture against Northamptonshire on Monday.

Six ladies a side played foursomes in the morning, which resulted in a win for Warwickshire 2½ & 7½. After lunch the ladies played singles and the result was added to the mornings score.

The final result was a great win for Warwickshire County by 7½ & 1½.

n The Friday Junior Stableford was a close affair. Alex Wilson and Spencer Brown, underlining his recent good form, both scored 42 points. Alex won the competition with the better back 9.

Third place went to Adrian March, a newcomer to the junior competitions with a score of 41 points. Junior Captain, Alex Cluett finished in 4th place with 37 points.
