RUGBY FESTIVAL WEEK
n The Ken Clark invitation betterball was held on Sunday, June 10. The day was well supported with 96 players taking part. Joy Clark presented the trophy to the winning pair, Martin Weaver (Rugby) and Bryn Thomas (Farthingstone).
n The Mixed Alliance was played on Monday in atrocious weather conditions. The winning team, G Miller, L Miller, K Horak and S Chamberline from Ullesthorpe, were worthy victors on the day.
n The Society Pairs was played on Tuesday. The winning pair was Martin Sheppard and Dave Thorpe.
n The Ladies Open which took place on Wednesday in the form of a betterball pairs stableford competition. There was a good representation of from Clubs in Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire, together with members from Rugby taking part.
The winners, with 42 points were Rachel Rusted and Kath Ashley from Nuneaton. In 2nd place Sue Jones from Rugby and Di McCormick from Nuneaton with 39 points. Jenny Cook and Emma Maybury from Whitefields came in 3rd with 38 points and Judith Pegler and Caroline Brown from Rugby with 35 points in 4th place.
The prize for best front nine went to Val Thomas of Nuneaton, and Sue Mann of Forest of Arden with 19 points on count back,with 16 points. SueTura of Rugby won nearest the pin and nearest the line was won by Sue Davis, also of Rugby.
n Thursday brought together 12 teams of six from around the Midlands to take part in the Seniors Invitation Team Trophy.
The winning team were from Farthingstone and the individual winner was Patrick Cross representing Brampton Heath Golf Club scoring an impressive 39 points.
n A Family Fun Night was held on Friday evening. Teams were made up of golfers and non golfers. Non golfers putted on the green. The winning team were Duncan and Alison Snook. Mick Hamp was nearest the pin on the 7th hole.
n The Lennon Open was played on Saturday in very mixed light and some heavy showers. The competition was well attended. The winner was Tim Seagers with a net 61 with Martin Weaver in 2nd place with a net 67 and a better back nine Richard Sands was 3rd also net 67.
n Sunday brought the turn of the Junior Open. Young players represented their clubs from around the area.
The winner, Amie James, came in with a superb net 56, 2nd was Jack Malone with a net 67 along with Rocco Lucca also with a net 67.
