Rugby Gymnastics Club took part in three artistic competitions in November and December - the boys in the Tom Wilson International competition and the West Midlands Championships and the girls were selected for the County Squad to represent the West Midlands.
The competitors for the Tom Wilson event were:
Connor Cooke, Ollie Hurst, Luca Marsella, Tayler Griffiths, Jaiden Khan, Louis Ward, Matthew Bull, Thomas Jones, Clayton Bell and Owen Print.
Connor, Ollie, Luca, Tayler and Jayden all competed in the Pre Level Under 9 event.
Luca Marsella was placed 1st for the Floor, Pommel, P. Bars and High Bar and achieved an overall very high score of 55.50 placing him first in this event.
Tayler’s best pieces were the P. Bars and Rings and his overall score was 53.75 placing him 3rd. Ollie came 4th overall with a score of 53.55 and was placed 1st on Rings and Connor and Jaiden’s overall scores were 50.45 and 49.20 respectively.
n In the Level 2 category Louis achieved 1st place for the Floor and came 5th with a total score of 51.90 and Matthew’s best piece was the Pommel where he came 1st and was placed 2nd overall with a total score of 54.05.
n Thomas and Clayton competed in a voluntary very high level under 12 years age group and Thomas’s overall score was 62.30 and Clayton’s 59.40.
Whilst Owen was in the under 14 age group also at a very high level and achieve 1st place for the Vault and P.Bars and 2nd place for the Rings and H. Bar giving him an extremely high score of 65.60 and placing him 1st.
n In the West Midlands Championships in December Rugby entered four competitors: Dylan Taylor-Walton, Joss Phillips, Joel Aldridge and Murray Cox.
They did amazingly well and wiped the board with over all scores for Dylan of 66.40 giving him a gold medal, for Joss the total score was 66.35 placing him 2nd, for Murray his total score was 64.90 giving him the bronze medal and Joel narrowly missed out on a medal and was placed 4th with a total score of 64.50. Fantastic results well done to everyone!
Girls County Squad
Six girls from the West Midlands were recently selected to form the County Squad. Four of these girls are from Rugby Gymnastics Club and the other 2 are from Coventry.
Their first competition was the ‘John Reeves’ held in November at GMAC. The team is made up of:
Eliana Marsella, Georgia Whitehead, Phoebe Doncaster, Eve Street (all Rugby Gymnastics Club); Angelina Anderson, Heather Croghan-Miksch (both Coventry Gym Club).
The team performed really well for their first competition and were placed 3rd with a total score of 181.45. Gill McKee
