Ladies’ Open, Lennon Open and Mixed Alliance

Ladies’ Open

Forty ladies, members and visitors attended the Ladies’ Open at Rugby Golf Club last Wednesday.  The competition was a Ladies’ Better Ball Stableford Open, played off 90% handicap.

The winners with 43 points were Hazel Oag and Sandra Brazier.  Money raised on the day will go to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at the Hospital of St Cross.

Lennon Open

The Lennon Open was played on Saturday.

The annual event is open to members and non-members, this year’s event was attended by 105 players with 12 players from visiting golf clubs.

The winner on the day was member Ben Hinson. Ben joined the club in 2013 and has been a great addition to the growing membership at Rugby Golf Club

Ben’s score on the day was a fantastic net 61 off a 10 handicap. Within the round he had 2 birdies and 12 pars.

Runners-up on the day were George K Taylor, Robert Townsend, Mark Ridley, John Richardson and John Beards.

2016 will be the club’s 125th anniversary. A large number of activities will be held at the club for both members and non-members.

Mixed Alliance

Rugby Golf Club’s 125th anniversary celebrations continued with the Open Mixed Alliance Trophy last Monday.

The weather was perfect and the course was set up in excellent condition for this event, which was first played in 2008.

It is played as a Stableford competition with the best lady’s and best man’s score to count on each hole.

The winning team of Di Reid, Helen Webb, George Reid and Sam Webb came in with 84 Stableford points, shown in the photograph with Club Captain, Chris Moran.

In second place were Jeff Cole, Sue Graham, Mel Mumford and Roly Slassor with 83 points.

Deb Harrad and Sue Jones had the best ladies’ score of 38 points on countback and Mark Ridley and Richard Wlodarczyk won the best men’s score with 42 points on countback.
