In the traditional curtain raiser to the new golf season the Home Internationals were played at Rugby Golf Club last weekend. Eighty golfers in four teams of 20 representing England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales competed on what became a bright spring afternoon, with scoring made a little tricky by a more than sporting breeze.

Each team posted a stableford score - kept confidential until the evening dinner. Many golfers took the opportunity to wear team colours and outfits on show ranged from English bowler hats to Scottish kilts. Club Captain Mark Ridley, who captained Wales hosted the evening dinner and revealed that it was Ireland, captained by Andy Walsh, who were the runaway winners with Scotland, captained by Richard Wlodarczyk coming second.

Wales were a close third and England, captained by Club Vice Captain Chris Moran were distant winners of the wooden spoon. As ever, a really enjoyable club day, made even better with several new members making their debut in what remains a great fixture in the club calendar.
