Mixed Open, Warwickshire League and Ansty results

Rugby Golf Club’s Mixed Open was held on Sunday with 80 players taking part.

Almost half the entrants were visitors, some playing the course for the first time. The weather conditions were ideal for this Greensome Stableford competition.

There were nearest the pin prizes for members and visitors plus vouchers for best back and best front nine for those mixed pairs outside the main prizes.

The 1st prize and winners of the Mixed Open Challenge Shield for 2014 went to Gary Townsend from Rugby with his partner, Lorna Morris from Kilworth Springs with a great score of 45 points.

Sam and Helen Webb from Rugby came in 2nd place with 41 points. In 3rd place were Danny Ramshaw and Deb Harrad, also from Rugby, with 40 points.

The 4th prize and prize for best visiting pair went to Patrick Footitt from Park Hill and Patricia Footitt from Forest Hill with 39 points, while John and Hilary Bradley from Rugby picked up 5th place, also with 39 points.

Warwickshire League

Rugby Ladies continued in their quest for the coveted Warwickshire League Trophy by qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition.

After winning their first two matches against Stratford and Whitefields they then lost a close match away at Stoneleigh Deerpark by 4 matches to 3.

They bounced back with a huge win against Sutton Coldfield at home by 7-0 followed up by a 6-1 home win against Stonebridge.

Team captain Deb Harrad was on tenterhooks waiting for results of the other matches but was relieved when qualification was confirmed last week. Rugby will play the semi-final at Walmley against Leamington in August; the other semi will be contested at Nuneaton between Shirley and Walmley.
