May Day Mixed Greensome Trophy
Rugby Golf Club held its May Day Mixed Greensome Trophy competition on Bank Holiday Monday with 18 pairs taking part. It was a sunny but blustery day, which made for challenging playing conditions on some holes, as the mixed pairs competed in this annual medal competition. The winners of the trophy for 2014 were Hazel and Keith Oag with a net score of 65.8. In second place were Di and George Reid with a net 66.6 with Linda and David Ollivant in third place with a net score of 68.
May bank holiday weekend also saw the annual match between the Captain and Ladies’ Captain at Rugby Golf Club.
Club Captain Duncan Snook led a team of 12 innocent and unsuspecting men against the might of Sheila Wragg’s cunning and merciless ladies’ team. In the lead match Duncan Snook and Simon Daysh presented little challenge to Sheila Wragg and Linda Ollivant and despite close finishes to many matches in a format where the ladies receive ‘bisques’ - extra handicap shots to be taken at their discretion - it all went down to the final pair with Cathy Griffin and Hazel Oag bringing home the winning half point against Rod Webb and Joe Lewandowski. All tremendous fun but with an air of inevitability about it, the ladies retained the trophy 3.5 to 2.5 as the men licked their wounds and as ever wondered where it all went wrong!
