Warwickshire Ladies League

Rugby Ladies Warwickshire League Team qualified for the semi-finals for the first time since 2008. The semi was played at the beginning of August at the neutral venue of Walmley against Leamington and County Golf Club. The Rugby Ladies were keen to avenge the defeat inflicted upon them by Leamington in the League Final of 2008.

Team Captain Deb Harrad was initially concerned as all her players would give shots to their opponents who were playing off higher handicaps. However this did not deter Judith Pegler and Abi Mortimer-Lane who won the first two matches comfortably. Sue Jones had a more difficult third match but still won at the first extra hole. Rugby needed just one more match win to secure victory but had a setback when Sandra Brazier narrowly lost the fourth match. There was no need for concern as the remaining players Deb Harrad, Caroline Brown and Linda Long all won resulting in a 6-1 victory and a final place at the Welcombe Golf Club, Stratford-Upon-Avon in September. Their opposition will be Shirley Golf Club who beat Walmley in the other semi at Nuneaton.
