Junior Golf League finals day at Clifton Road

The Junior South Warwickshire League finals day was held at Rugby Golf Club last month at their Clifton Road course. The League comprises seven teams from Rugby, Coventry Hearsall, Coventry Finham, Leamington, Nuneaton, Kenilworth and Stratford.

Some 41 juniors enjoyed challenging autumn conditions. Rugby Golf Club achieved third place in the League for 2016, after being champions the previous three seasons.

On the day there were some good scores and the Rugby Juniors made their home advantage count with a magnificent combination of scores to win the Nett Trophy with an aggregate score from 5 players of 336, winning by a margin of eight shots from Coventry Finham. The team included Joel Rabone, Aidan March, Charlie Price, Josh Thomas, Jessica McGhee, Harry Coulthurd and Phoebe Anderson.

Josh Thomas of Rugby won the Nett prize with a 66 on countback from Phoebe Anderson, also of Rugby and Rachel Cross from Kenilworth.

The Gross prizes were won by Rocco Luca 74 from Finham in third place, James Huggins 73 of Stratford in second place and Joel Rabone from Rugby the overall winner with a 72, to secure the Trophy.

Nuneaton Golf Club won the gross prize with a score of 394 for five players beating Leamington & County by five shots.

The Awards for the season were presented on Sunday to Leamington & County, who had a terrific season to become champions of the league, with Nuneaton celebrating their success of winning the Ian Woosnam Trophy for the short course JSWL title in May.
