RUGBY GOLF CLUB

The annual Captains’ drive-in took place at Rugby Golf Club earlier this month in pouring rain.

Past Lady Captain Julie Broom hit a drive of 102 yards and Past Seniors Captain Mick Hamp 186 yards, Vice-Captains Caroline Brown and Martin Weaver 158 yards and 215 yards respectively, leaving current Captains Bob James to hit 159 yards and Hazel Oag 124 yards.

This event is all in good fun and the money raised from the ‘book’ on guessing the distances driven totalled £140, which was split between the two captains for their chosen charities in 2012.

Before the drive-in, the Club Captain Bob James presented cheques for £3,620 to each of the chosen 2011 charities.

Clair McDowell, a member of the Community Fundraising Team, was at the club to accept a cheque for Myton Hospice, while the Club President Barry Pegler accepted the cheque on behalf of Make a Wish.

Julie Broom had chosen Perennial as her charity for 2011 and had donated her cheque for £2,000 at a presentation on Ladies Day in February.

Thanks go to all members of Rugby Golf Club for their kind donations throughout the year to raise an excellent total of £9,240 for these charitable causes.
