The Gaels travelled to Birmingham last Sunday and beat home side Connollys in the Midlands League by 3 points, 1-6 1-9.
As many players were away on holidays over the bank holiday, some of the ‘old guard’ had to play as can be seen from the photo but it’s another win for the Gaels.
Jordan Gold kept the Gaels in the game with two great saves.
Micheal O Meara, who started off a little sluggish as he was on his 18th birthday weekend, had a great second half along with twins Shane and Alex Donaldson.
Shane scored a great goal that put the team ahead for the first time in the game and kept the lead to the end.
In defence Mark Naylor, Ned Byrne, Neal Treacy and the versatile Paul Mc Grath kept the Connollys forwards at bay despite very heavy pressure in the last ten minutes.
Adrian Roche had his best game for the Gaels at corner forward.
Kieran Biggins was involved in everything at midfield helping out in defence and supplying the forwards.
Pat O’Brien had his usual top quality game at midfield and took the ball into the Connollys’ defence on numerous occasions where the ‘old fox’ was on hand to get the ball into the hands of top scorer and man of the match Mick Treacy who scored 7 points.
Training on Thursday at 8pm.
Game next Sunday in Birmingham against Saint Brendan’s.
