Rugby Town will host old foes Bedworth United in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, if Dave Stringer’s side are able to see off either Bloxwich United or Studley in the preliminary round
Valley must travel on August 25 to meet the winners of the extra-
preliminary fixture between Bloxwich of the Midland Combination and Midland Alliance outfit Studley two weeks prior to that – with the first qualifying round game scheduled for September 8.
Last season Studley finished 17th in the Alliance (one level below Town’s) whilst Bloxwich were seventh in their league, a further step down the non-league pyramid.
The Greenbacks were promoted into the Evostik Southern League Premier Division via the play-offs at the end of the 2011-12.
The draw for the opening stages of the FA Trophy has also been made, with Town facing a home tie against Northern Premier League Stafford Rangers in the first qualifying round.
n Valley kicked-off their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 defeat against Atherstone on the Butlin Road Astroturf pitch.
The warm-up game was spilt into thirds. Rugby dominated the first period, taking the lead through new signing Fazel Koriya.
Dave Stringer’s other confirmed close season signings to-date Craig Kelly and Rob Foster also featured from the off, and he also gave a start to midfielder Ross Oulton – who has had two previous spells at the club – whilst there was an appearance from the bench for another trialling returnee Nick Heath.
Town’s next practice match – again on the astroturf - is scheduled for tonight (Thursday) against Alvis, with Blue Square Conference North Solihull Moors then due to visit Butlin Road next Tuesday (17th) for a friendly on the main pitch.
The Alvis game kicks-off at 7.30pm with free admission. The Solihull game is at 7.45pm (adults £5, concessions £3.
