YOUNG Jack Lewis (pictured) won at the recent RS Tera Inland Championships at Northampton Sailing Club, which attracted sailors from all over the UK.
The winds were light on the Saturday with lots of shifts, making it tricky sailing. At the end of the day after four races nine-year-old Jack was leading overall.
On Sunday the breeze picked up a bit and with different children winning races by the end of the day after eight races, no one quite knew who had won, as there were three children very close in points. It wasn’t until the prizegiving that Jack learned he was 2012 RS Tera Sport Inland Champion - a fantastic result considering he is only nine and was up against children as old as 13.
Jack has only been sailing a year and although he did not win any of the races he was very consistent, his results being: (3),2,2,3,3,2,3,(5) total score after discards 15 points, beating the second place competitor by 2.5 points.
This was the last big event of the season and so now it is back to training over the winter months at Draycote.
