Canoe Slalom Word
Cup - race 1, Cardiff
After the cancellation of day one at the Canoe Slalom World Cup in Cardiff on Friday due to the high winds, the sun was shining on Saturday as the rescheduled programme got underway, with all of Friday’s heats abandoned the event went straight to semi finals and finals.
Kimberley Woods, a member of Rugby Canoe club, narrowly missed medaling in the Women’s Canadian (C1) event coming 4th, but the youngster was the talk of the circuit after putting in a masterful performance that rivalled her more senior competitors.
The 16-year-old showed a technical ability beyond her years and has been tipped to excel in the fast growing category of C1.
“It was a tricky course especially around gate 6. I tipped over but I got it all together again and I got on with it,” said Kimberley.
“Next up are the Juniors and U23 World Championships in Wassau (Wisconsin, USA) and this performance has given me more confidence to believe I can compete and win a medal there.”
