Josh off to training camp in Tokyo and Pierce wins world titles in Malaga
Bilton School post 16 pupil Joshua Giles has been selected to attend the Great Britain Under 18 Judo training Camp in Tokyo, Japan this half term.
Josh will spend ten days in Tokyo learning and training with the Japanese judo squad. This is not only a fantastic cultural trip for Josh but Tokyo is the birth place of Judo and Josh is hoping to learn as much as he can from the training camp.
Joshua is currently ranked number 1 in Great Britain for the -55Kg category and competed in the U18 European Championships last year. He has won the -55kg British title a fantastic four times and is hopeful of one day representing Great Britain at an Olympic Games.
Bilton School would like to wish Josh all the best for his trip to Japan and would also like to congratulate double World Kick Boxing Champion Pierce Manning, who earned the titles in the 13-15 age group.
Pierce travelled to Malaga in Spain to compete for Great Britain in the WMO World Championships and defended his title he won last year. Pierce won gold for the -60Kg weight category and silver in the -55KG weight category.
The championships were over a week in duration, with Pierce having to compete against competitors from all over the world.
Pierce said: “It was a great honour to represent Great Britain again and to bring home two medals to add to my collection was fantastic.”
