Donington Park saw Rugby’s saloon car racer Carl Swan competing in round six of the British Hatchback Championship.
A goood result was seriously needed after a drive-shaft broke at Cadwell, dropping Swan off the top of the standings. With work commitments not alowing time for pre-meeting testing on the new Donington track, it was a brilliant performance by Carl to put the Stanbridge Motors Citroen VTS on the second row of the 38 car grid, only 0.3 of a second from pole.
The race started with the usual racing incidents at Redgate bend, with Carl losing out, descending Cramer curves in sixth place.
At the completion of lap one, the Rugby car had moved up to fifth and a great overtaking move down the Cramer curves saw Swan take two cars to move up to third and closing the gap on second.
However, on the last lap gearbox gremlins dropped the Autotechnics-Jawel Paints supported car to fifth. This result moves Swan up to sixth in the championship. The team would like to thank BT Tyres and Wycliffe Motaquip for their support.
