Wellingborough 5 Miles
Stuart Nelson led home Rugby & Northampton AC as the men’s team took victory in the Wellingborough 5 mile road race on Sunday.
Nelson finished in 7th place over a fairly flat course on a warm sunny day in a time of 28 mins 7 secs, as he slowly works his way back to full fitness following an injury.
Just one place behind was Luke Robinson with 28.19 and with the race being part of R&N’s Club Championships 18-year-old Robinson will now be the favourite to take the title.
Greg Spellman continued his good form to cross the line in 10th position in 28.24 and in doing so took away the prize for being the third veteran over 40.
Completing the winning team was John Saw, who is also coming back from a lengthy lay-off, to finish in 21st spot on 29.32.
In the M50 race Terry Egan once again had to settle for second behind Wootton’s Lazloe Boden, but he recorded a respectable 29.42 in 23rd place overall.
Three other Veterans over 50 took part for the club with Neil Glover (82nd in 34.26), Neil Martin (151st in 37.57) and Joe Horsley (219th in 42.16).
Jo Pulsford ran a lifetime best when she romped home to win the Ladies race in 29.37 and backing her up in the team were veterans Karen Spellman (42nd in 41.40) and Orla Tait (101st in 51.29).
