Novices have a go at park

A sunny evening inspired several newcomers to have a go at orienteering around the Memorial Park in Coventry.

The well attended event was organised by juniors Calum Barnetson and Aimee Morse supported by members of the Morse family.

On the short 1.9k course junior member Olivia Bailey W10 came in first in 15.24miins, second was Nicole Hoy W12 in 16.08mins and Jennie Rackham W18 in 16.54mins both newcomers and daughters of OD members.

The medium 4k course with 16 controls was won by Anne Straube W35 in 26.58mins; Suzanne Humphries W45 was 2nd in 28.41mins and Liz Philips W45 3rd in 31.29mins.

There were 24 entrants on the long 6k course with 20 controls and Alan Segar M35 came in first in 36.39mins, Mike Hampton M65 was 2nd in 39.45mins and Will Critchley M21 ex club member over from Canada 3rd in 41.29mins.

Next Event

On Wednesday, August 15 Octavian Droobers will be staging an event at Gamecock Barracks, Bramcote, near Nuneaton, with start times from 6pm – 7.30pm. For security purposes entrants must register prior to the event see website for details.

Runners and walkers of all ages, 5 – 85 years, and abilities will be welcome to come along to try out the adventure navigation sport.

Help is available to all newcomers. A large scale map and electronic timers are provided, bring compass if you have one.
