Taking advantage of the beautiful sunny weather many Octavian Droobers ran the urban race around Bridgnorth on Saturday and up on Brown Clee Hill on Sunday.
Four first places were won by club members at Bridgnorth. The steep roads with steps leading down to the river, past the steam railway station, ruins, gardens, and a market on the main street added to the complexity of finding controls in the fastest time. Aimee Morse W16 won the Junior women’s 2.27k event in 21.06mins, Riina Kuuselo W21 won the Women’s 5.24k Open Event with 120metres of climb in 36.41mins, Sheila Carey W65 won the Ultra Veteran Women’s 2.74k event in 28.43mins (Sue Bicknell 3rd) and Mike Hampton M65 won the Ultra Veteran Men’s 3.35k event with 120metres of climb in 30.35mins.

Sheila Carey W65 came 2nd on the Green 3.9k course in 44.56mins, Riina Kuuselo W21 3rd in 58.54mins on the Short Brown 7k course with 220 metres of climb, Julie Emmerson W16 4th on the Blue 5.6k course in 45.44mins. Mike Hampton M65 travelled to the Bristol Orienteering club urban race at Frenchay on Sunday and came 1st on the Men’s Ultra Veteran 3.65k course in 27.47mins.
The club returned to Daventry Country Park, after a long gap of several years, for the local event organised by Anthony Walker which attracted over 60 competitors. On the Short 1.7k course Ella-Rose McCartney W12 came 1st in 17.54mins closely followed by Daventry new orienteer Sam Lockwood M8 in 17.40mins and Emma Grier W12 19.47mins.
