With snow and ice forcing cancellation of two Octavian Droober orienteering events over the past week members decided to travel further afield to participate in the Sunday Thieves Wood East Midlands Regional event, near Mansfield, organised by Nottingham Orienteering Club.
Top three positions were achieved by Bruce Bryant M55 who was 1st on the Short Green 3.5k course in 29.53mins, Hamish Rogers M16 2nd on the Blue 6.2k course 45.33mins and Sheila Carey W65 3rd on the Green 5k course 46.33min.
In the night race held on Saturday, at the same venue, club member Anne Straube W35 came 2nd on the Medium 3.4k course in 32.37mins.
n Club members will be competing this weekend in the national inter club Compass Sport Cup first round at Brereton Spurs, Cannock Chase, hoping to qualify for the final to be held in September in Scotland.
Also Club juniors will be receiving coaching at a night orienteering training session during half term at Rough Close, Coventry.
The Coombe Country Park event, which was cancelled, has now been rescheduled for Sunday, March 18.
On Saturday, February 25 Octavian Droobers will be staging an event at Wainbody Wood, Coventry. Runners and walkers of all ages, 5–85 years, and abilities will be welcome to come along to try out the adventure navigation sport, help is available, large scale map and electronic timers are provided, bring compass if you have one.
