Rugby and Northampton athletes struck gold again in the British Masters indoor pentathlon championships held at Lea Valley, London.

Returning to their success of 2010 Sally Hine and Lesley Willis retained their national titles in the gruelling all day, five events, of the women’s pentathlon and in the process posting new indoor bests.

Sally undertook the Over 60 age group and produced a personal best in every event; 60m hurdles 12.16s, high jump 1.12m, Shot 6.36m, long jump 3.18m, and the final 800m 3:34.03s, despite not finally running until 7.30pm.

This showed nearly 500pts improvement on last year, breaking the 3,000 point barrier and placing her second on the all-time rankings with 3,217pts.

Lesley in the Over 45 age group also produced a new personal best in the hurdles 11.14s, but the high jump was down 3cm on last year 1.24m.

Her other events were all slight improvements on 2010, Shot 6.97m, long jump 4.13m, 800m 2:45.66m scoring a winning total of 2943pts, up on last year but shy of the 3000 barrier.

However, as there is an age related category for each year over the 45 age group Lesley actually achieved around 3,200 as she is in the middle of the age band.
