Two students off to English Schools
Two Princethorpe College Athletes have earned selection for the English Schools Athletics Championships taking place at Gateshead on the weekend of July 1-2. Thirteeen-year-old Annabelle Pask and fourteen year old Luke Bromley will both compete in the sprint relays and the long jump and eighty metre hurdles respectively.
Both youngsters achieved their National qualifying times and distances at recent meets. Pask jumped 5.09 metres taking her ahead of the 5.05 national qualifying distance at the recent Mason Trophy meet in Birmingham. Annabelle, who trains three times a week with the Godiva Harriers, is ‘excited’ about the forthcoming English Schools Event.
‘I have the Independent Schools National Championships and a couple of other meets before the Gateshead competition so that should keep me on my toes,’she commented.
Similarly Year 9’s Luke Bromley is feeling optimistic about the challenge of competing at such a high level. Currently ranked 9th nationally for the 80 metres hurdles the sprinter from Brinklow believes that Gateshead will give him tremendous experience.
‘Athletics is a great social event. It keeps me fit over the summer. It’s a brilliant thing to do.’ Bromley’s pb of 11.8 seconds was recently achieved in Oxford at the Young Athletes League. He currently trains three times a week with Rugby and Northampton AC.
Princethorpe PE teacher Mrs Debs Brookes added:‘Luke and Annabelle are two of our most talented track athletes. Their commitment to their academic studies and their sporting achievements in and out of College reflects the exceptionally organised and motivated young people they are.”
