One Hour track race
Rugby & Northampton athlete Jo Pulsford had a superb performance in the Leamington One Hour track race to win the Ladies competition and finish second overall.
Pulsford and the eventual male winner Martin Slevin of Coventry Godiva matched each other stride for stride for most of the race and it wasn’t until the very last minute that Slevin pulled away.
During the long battle Pulsford dipped under 40 minutes for 10,000m with 39.46 and with just 44 seconds remaining Jo had completed exactly 37 laps. Her final distance was recorded as 15,024 metres, which only just missed the rvent record for a woman by 10 metres.
In a race that first started in 1976, the best ever female performance still belongs to the late Hilary Johnson of Harborough AC from 1987 who was the mother of Martin Johnson the current England Rugby team manager.
