ROAD RUNNING: Rugby leading men’s competitions after five races

East Midlands Grand Prix Series

BANBURY 5 MILES

Rugby & Northampton AC took the overall lead after five races in both the Senior and Veteran Men’s team competition in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series.

In the Banbury 5 miles the club gained victory in both categories when Daniel Mould achieved another personal best of 27 mins 49 secs to finish in 6th place and lead home R&N for the third time.

The winning Veteran squad was fronted by John Gercs in 12th position on 28.36, which gave him a win in the M45 section, while Jonathan Burke and Iain Botheroyd finished 22nd and 23rd respectively, just two seconds apart with the former recording 29.21 and the latter also claiming 5th spot in the M45 category.

Alistair McDonnell went to second overall in the Senior Men’s competition with a time of 29.42 in 31st place.

Completing the Veteran team was Mike Andrews in 37th (M40 2nd) with 30.05 and Terry Egan who was 5th M50 in 45th slot on 30.36.

Valerie Cross leads the overall standings in the F65 race after she recorded 49.34 to clinch 3rd on the night.

Seven other men took part for R&N with Daniel Williams timed at 31.05 for 54th position, Jonathan Taylor (71st in 31.43), Alan Mould (M55 3rd in 33.03), Laurence Scott ( M50 10th in 33.56), Alex McMurtrie (M45 18th in 34.09), Mick Howell (M50 22nd in 37.17) and Neil Martin (M55 9th in 37.42).
